It is good that everyone tries to alleviate suffering and that there a psychologists and therapists that do so. However, humans have been like this forever. The world will never be at peace. Every generation, and the generations to come will suffer, experience great injustices and die in all sorts of ways (innocently and prematurely too). This is why I am against procreation. The unborn don't ask us to be born, nor do they "need" to get stronger from suffering. Learning will suffering is very evil. Most of the time we don't learn anything of it and if we do, it is a very bad way of learning. Know life, know pain No life, no pain.
Thanks Steve. I'd been struggling to contain my deep upset with my own national psychology society for their unsolicited & one-sided public statement which they put out regarding the dire situation in the Middle East right now. Your words have been a balm to my heart & have given useful me direction on how to navigate my emotions & thoughts while pursuing my work as a clinical psychologist. Thank you for your wisdom for that is the middle way.

Assumptions, stereotypes as espoused by Jao below are gas to the flames of vengeance and hate. Give me one example of how taking sides in this nightmare is going to change a single outcome for tens of thousands of men, women and children, regardless of nationality or religion. I watched a video of a 95 year old WWII vet regarding the repatriation of japanese soldiers' prayer flags that he took as trophies during combat in the Pacific. Why now he was asked? Because it is time he replied. Closure. I have spent 70 years hating. You cant hate forever. He gets it. Dr Hayes gets it. Finitude. Our days are numbered. Footprints in the sand. And as long as we carry the sword and condemn generation upon generation upon generation of young people to solving problems by terrorist acts or leveling countries in the name of whatever or whomever, as long as we deny our mutual humanity, we are consigned to hell on earth. Be careful about your assumptions as to who consumes what media in this country or any other place on this planet. You are distancing and objectifying and stereotyping. Be grateful that you can do so. People have disappeared, lost their freedom and lives for much less knee jerk behavior. People seek meaning through their history and experience. There was nothing muddled in this talk. Are you willing or able to walk his personal history and see it even if you cant agree with it. If you can, that is the first step towards a peaceful world. May not happen in our life time, but it is a step....
With such strawman, I won't bother giving examples for an argument I didn't make. In one thing you're right though: I should've said "american MAINSTREAM media".

I know it wasn't your point, but comparing the October 7th's "one side" to Nazis promotes an incredibly muddied perspective, based on what is known. Understandable for people who mostly consume American media of course...
The comment section of my American media paints the victims of Oct 7th as deserving what happened to them. That killing them and taking them hostages was a just and necessary act of “resistance” to cleanse the land of Jews “from the river to the sea.” In the spirit of Stevens' video I accept that perspective as sincerely held. I just don't agree with it.
@@DFHobbs the sentence is "from the river to the sea, palestine will be free", not "from the river to the sea, palestinians will kill all the jews". A lot of Americans seems to be caught up in attributing conveniant meanings to what Palestine supporters say, probably to more easily overlook the genocide their government has been financing.
Insightful words from an insightful and great man. Thank you for all you do for the community Dr. Stephen Hayes.
Thank you so much. I'm an Israeli psychotherapist and you helped me breathe some more.
It’s so essential for me to hear these words from Dr. Steven Hayes now…😢

Which was, of course, what I meant
